As a subcontractor to Pioneer Corporate Services Inc., Zolon Tech Inc. supported the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) at the National Library of Medicine (NLM), a pivotal entity within the National Institutes of Health (NIH). NCBI is renowned for providing critical databases and search services to the biomedical and molecular biology communities.
From August 2021 to April 2024, our mission was to enhance the XML markup of journal manuscripts and scientific materials, ensuring compliance with NIH’s public access policies and contributing to the broader dissemination of biomedical knowledge.
We offered comprehensive XML markup services, including terminology mapping, pre- and post-tagging quality assurance of journal manuscripts, and XML markup of scientific books for NCBI’s Electronic Bookshelf. Our work supported a variety of biomedical databases and services, ensuring their accuracy and accessibility.
A rigorous methodology for XML markup was developed and applied, utilizing standardized Data Type Definitions (DTD) to ensure consistency and reliability across digital publications. This approach facilitated the indexing, archiving, and public display of manuscripts on NIH’s platforms.
Navigating the complexities of diverse biomedical terminology and ensuring the accurate mapping against various databases posed significant challenges. Through meticulous quality assurance and adherence to NCBI guidelines, we ensured high-quality XML markups.
Our efforts greatly enhanced the visibility and accessibility of critical biomedical research, supporting NIH’s mission to advance science and health. The project improved the efficiency and reliability of information dissemination to both the scientific community and the public.
The collaboration on the NIH XML project underscores our commitment to supporting the advancement of biomedical research through technological expertise. While our direct role has concluded, the impact of our work continues to support the NCBI and the broader scientific community.
